For a first time dad, pregnancy sometimes feels like a trip through the hormone forest.
But here are 4 things you can do to help your pregnant partner:
Understand that there's no single, surefire "normal" pattern to what a woman will feel as she progresses through pregnancy.
Understand that there is no single paint-by-numbers way for a man to experience his partner's pregnancy.
Recognize the pregnancy as a way to deepen your relationship with your partner and your new child. This requires some awareness and work. And the first trimester is the ideal time to begin learning to provide the support your partner needs.
Rapid hormonal changes mean Mom is getting harder to predict. You have to accept that fact while also doing your best to notice the cues she's giving about how she's feeling. Practice your patience. It's like a muscle that gets stronger with exercise. You'll need that muscle a lot over the next couple of decades!
